High Lonesome Sound

Kevin Shults

Kevin Shults fell in love with bluegrass music as a youngster in Salem, Missouri, the hometown he shares with The Dillards. In Salem he learned to play the bluegrass instruments, concentrating on mandolin and bass fiddle. It was after migrating to Columbia in 1979 to attend Columbia College, that Kevin first became aware of KOPN and community radio. Now he's joined the KOPN family as co-host of the High Lonesome Sound at 9 pm Sunday evening.

Kevin has performed with several bluegrass groups, including Junction 22, Twin Rivers Band, Midnight Flight and currently plays with Rural Roots.

When not broadcasting, Kevin's enjoys time with his wife Cheryl and his grown children, Brandon and Erin. He is a self-employed artist and designer [KevinShults.com], and enjoys backyard gardening and attending bluegrass festivals in his spare time.
