KOPN Board Meeting Minutes for 11/18/14
by James Ginns
Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by John Betz.
Present where John Betz, Peter Anger, Atish Sen, Kay Allen, James Ginns, Brett Norton, and David Owens.
The previous meetings minutes were approved without alteration.
KOPN’s November drive is concluded, with money waiting to be processed. Money from the drive was down, in comparison to drives conducted around this time of year. Potential reasons for this were discussed, and included the proximity of the previous drive, the concurrent membership drive for KBIA, and possibly competition for funds with the Fall 2014 elections.
The audit is ongoing, with the auditors currently requesting documentation to proceed.
John Betz scheduled a Community Advisory Committee to take place in the public library on Decemeber 4th, from 7pm to 9pm.
A tentative date for the upcoming annual meeting was set for Jan 18th from 5 to 7pm at the Unity Center, but subject to change based on availability.
December 1st kicks off Como Gives and KOPN’s end of the year giving. Last year, KOPN placed 5th in terms of funds raised by local nonprofits. This was mostly the result of a lot of smaller donations. David Owens discussed his desire to hire Michelle Grant to work on social media / internet outreach on this campaign.
Staffing issues in general were also a concern, as some of the processing for the August drive are still ongoing even as we have a new drive to process payments for. There were a great number of outreach events in the month of October and KOPN is down a staff member as Jackie Casteel has left.
Peter Anger brought Jennifer Erikson of CAT TV over for a discussion with the board about a possible collaboration. Such collaborations have been done in the past, but not recently, and have typically been on the initiative of volunteers. It was proposed that those who have had CAT TV training in the past be gathered for further discussion
Meeting Ended 8:40
