Steve Jerrett has been involved in music for most of his life and in folk music particularly since 1962 when he learned the guitar. As a performer he has played in venues from the New England area and the Midwest. His musical influences span the classical, jazz, New Age and folk genres along with musical theatre. As a songwriter he has several songs published by BMI. An accomplished fingerstyle guitarist, his influences include Pete Seeger, Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges.
The "radio bug" bit Steve as a youngster falling asleep listening to Jean Shepherd and "Long John" Neville. It was sparked on by the free-form radio explosion of the sixties. In the late 70's and early 80's Steve was a volunteer at the public television station KBDI in Broomfield, Colorado where he produced a weekly music video show "FMTV." In 1994 Steve began volunteering at KOPN. He inherited "The Sunday Morning Show" when its host moved away to Colorado. In July of 1994 KOPN's Sunday Morning Coffeehouse was born.
A New England native Steve managed the Second Friday Coffeehouse in Belmont, Massachusetts from 1983 to 1992. This volunteer position gave him the opportunity to serve on the board of directors of Folk Arts Network leading to the formation of the Coffeehouse Association of New England. He is currently serving on the board of the New Wave Corporation, the non-profit entity that owns KOPN. While on the board Steve wrote the current Membership database application. After several management crises he was asked by the board to serve on the Management Committee that performs the duties of a general manager on a volunteer basis.
In real life Steve is a Systems Analyst for the City of Columbia, Missouri. Steve is also the music director for KOPN FM. Please visit Steve's personal web site at http://www.sundaymorningcoffeehouse.org, email: steve@sundaymorningcoffeehouse.org.
