Morgan Matsiga grew up in Zimbabwe. He came to Columbia to study at the MU College of Agriculture where he earned an undergraduate degree in General Agriculture. He continued on to graduate school and earned two masters degrees, in Agricultural Extension Education and in Entomology. His thesis research for the MS in Entomology involved IPM (integrated pest management). Morgan has begun work towards a doctorate in the area of biological control of insect pests. His research includes investigating and documenting the role of ladybugs as natural predators of several agricultural insect pests. He hopes to complete his doctoral program after he leaves the private sector.
He currently works for UPS as a Customer Service Associate and an elected Shop Steward representing Local 688 Teamsters at UPS.
Since spring '89 he has been a volunteer programmer for community radio KOPN 89.5 FM. He hosts "Motherland Jam" - an African music show every Saturday and also rotates as co-host for "Reggae Party" (as Ras Shumba). He is also founder and director of UDA, Universal Drum Appeal, a Mid-Missouri based interactive drum and percussion ensemble. Other hobbies include Tae Kwon-Do, currently holding a 1st degree black belt ranking, and insect collection and identification.
Morgan is married to Rebecca and they have two children, Mazvita and Muki. He is an active member of Community United Methodist Church.
