Morning Ayre Mondays

I grew up listening to my sister playing classical piano. I started to play French horn at age eleven, and have always played and listened to classical music. When the Beatles hit the scene in 1963, rock became crucial to my being. After moving to Columbia in 1972, I was inspired by ethnic music, such as the newly exiled Chilean band Inti Illimani playing at MU; Mikis Theodorakis, and The National Dance Company of Senegal at Stephens. The newly formed radio station, KOPN, which I have supported and listened to since it first went on the air in 1973, was a huge source of musical enrichment. In the early days, the programming was totally eclectic, and it nourished my hunger for many genres--World Beat, Reggae, Latin, rock, folk, singer/songwriter, Celtic--to name just a few. I've continued to collect recordings and hear concerts all my adult life. I'm thankful to have the chance to share some of the world's musical treasures I've discovered with my community, and hope to recapture some of the spontaneity of the fledgling station.
