KOPN to Offer Organizational Development Training
In July 2007 the KOPN Board of Directors and staff were fortunate to have the opportunity to go through a seven-hour board of directors training course provided by Larry Dickerson. Many KOPN listeners know him as Lightning Larry. Larry has been a programmer on and off for the past 30 years, lately he has been volunteering on our guest host show Tuesday afternoon's Anything Goes program at 3pm. Larry has over thirty years of experience in community, economic, and organizational development, and he has a deep commitment to empowering people, communities, and organizations to help themselves.
KOPN board has decided that it will go through Larry's complete Organizational Development Training in 2008. Sessions are scheduled on Saturdays, beginning at 9am and include:

Larry is donating his services to KOPN to offer an eleven - session Organization Development Training program for FREE to a limited number of KOPN board members, staff, and volunteers. We will offer the 10 remaining seats to KOPN listeners, individuals and other organizations for a very reasonable price.

Jan 26 Board Training - 7 hours
This workshop includes the basics of being on a board, duties, responsibilities, obligations, essential knowledge needed, board processes and participation.
Feb 23 Strategic Planning - 5 hours
This workshop teaches organizational development through capacity approaches. Shows you how to get out of crisis development mode and begin taking a "root cause" proactive approach to program development.

Problem Solving - 5 hours
This session is about problem solving as a process, components of problem solving, decision-making, process design, and non-linear approaches.
Apr 26
Fundraising - 6 hours
Developing a fundraising plan is the goal of this 6-hour session. Includes information on basics of fundraising, prospecting, campaigns, fundraising organizations, organizational planning for fundraising, and scrounging 101.
May 17 Grantmanship - 8 hours
This workshop will show you the process of grantsmanship - including planning for grants, grant development, understanding RFPs, researching grants, grants management, and budgeting.

Community Partnerships - 5 hours
By the end of this session you will have a better understanding of "Building Community Partnerships." Session includes the process of partnership formation, steps in partnership formation, types of partnerships, collaborations, and basic partnership skills.

Getting the Word Out - 5 hours
Marketing for community organizations on a $0 budget. This workshop includes basics of public sector marketing, marketing methods, and developing a marketing plan.
Aug 16
Advocacy - 5 hours
Spend 5 hours with us developing the skills to advocate for your cause or organization. Approaches to advocacy, methods of advocacy, developing strategic and tactical approaches to advocacy planning and personal skills needed for effective advocacy.
Sept 27
Meetings and Facilitations - 7 hours
Spend the day with us learning the ins and outs of designing and running meetings, agenda development, effective meetings, evaluating meetings, and learning valuable facilitation processes and skills.
Oct 18
Working with Groups - 5 hours
This workshop will give you insight into understanding group processes, stages of group formation, developing effective groups, approaches to communication theory, barriers to communication, and essentials of communication.
Nov 22
Evaluations - 7 hours
During this session you will learn how to evaluate and measure success of your organization and its programs using both quantitative and qualitative methods. This will also include components of community-based research, program development, surveys, and other needs assessment approaches.
